Nautical New England
Men big and small can pose a bit of an interior design conundrum. They don’t like flowers, they don’t like any colour that could be remotely considered girly and they can’t even tell you what they do like. While the big boys are old enough to figure out their taste and style for themselves, the little fellas need a little bit of guidance from the favourite lady in their lives as to how to decorate and if your looking for a fresh or trendy revamp for the little man in your life’s sleeping quarters then think New England Nautical!!!!!!!!!
Nautical style is a style staple and never goes out of fashion and this year in particular all things nautical have been hotter than the summer sun (not hard in our climate!) and this love of all things blue, red, white and stripy has now extended to our interiors.
A Nautical New England influenced interior is a good choice for a boys room because it is stylish, classic, well never date and can grow with your child from early boy hood into the teenage years and beyond. It is also far easier for you to look at than the latest football fad or cartoon hero.
To create this look just think of beach hut, white washed walls, relaxed, casual fabrics like cotton and linens, in lots of different stripes, mixed together with checks, plains and the odd dot. Mix lots of shades of blues together for interest, with lighter shades of blue creating a softer more relaxed feel and deeper shades of blue creating more mature, grown up feel. Add hints of red and rich taupe’s for warmth.
A roman blind in a Nautical stripe is the ideal choice of window treatment, you could even layer the window with floor length made to measure curtains for added interest. Keep bedding simple in a plain white or stripe and then layer the bed with loads of co-ordinating cushion in different patterns. Furniture can either be dark in a maghony or walnut for a sophisticated wooden boat feel or cream or white for a soft beach feel.
To let the room grow with the child just change the accessories from teddies and beach buckets to computers and DVDs.
So get swept away on the New England Nautical trend and give your child a room they will love for years to come.
